In Kaminoyama district, there was a prade like Kase-Dori in Kan-ei years(1624-1644) of Edo-Era. The costume of former Kase-Dori is made up from straw apron, towel to mask face, "kendai" straw coat, and "zeni-sashi-kago" basket to collect donation. In Edo-era, Kase-Doris were allowed to go up the castle to do a performance. It was called a "Gozen Kase". Inside the town, Kase-Dori made sevaral kinds of street performance. Kase-Dori is a kind of formar new year festival. Though Kase-Dori is similar to "Namahage" of Akita pref. or "Yaya-Matsuri" of Amarume-machi, Shonai district of Yamagata pref., has unique folklore. Kase-Dori once ceased in 1896, but resumed in 1959 by effort of many citizens. Kase-Dori preservation society was organized in 1986, and holdsannual performance at 11 Feb.(national holiday), every year. |
